The Knight and Princess: Of Angels and Demons
By Justin Shaffer

Prologue

Long ago, in a land far away, there lived a brave knight and lovely princess, two people interwined by destiny to bring peace to land. Early into their lives, they encountered a fallen angel referred to as the Malice Wing, a demoness whose only wish was destruction and domination. With the sacrifices from the people of the princess’ kingdom and a childhood friend of her’s, the angel was slain, bringing about a peace to the land that would be held for the next fifteen years. In that time, the young lovers became one, giving birth to four beautiful and talented children, two girls and two boys. From this, they passed their destiny onto their children, unaware that the angel’s demise was not the end of the evil but only the beginning.

Seraphina, the eldest daughter of the Ursine Moon family is the first to deal with the destiny that her parents were meant to prevent. Reborn of the angel known as Order Wing, Seraphina will come in contact with the next part of the seal of Chaos, the crest of the demon. This story begins upon the morning after her sixteenth birthday, officially becoming a woman and making plans to leave her home, searching for her own adventure in life. Now begins the story of Seraphina of the Ursine Moon...

Chapter 1

The morning sun slowly rose over the horizon, first light shining upon a humble house that stood near a small pond with a large tree shadowing the sandy bank. Rays of light reached inside the second floor window, slowly illluminating the room of a beautiful young woman. Waking up slowly as the light entered, she stretched her long slender arms, running her hands through her curly auburn hair, eventually rubbing the sleep from her eyes. She looked out at the window with her unique eyes, her left eye was green and the right was blue, a special trait her parents said was a symbol from the goddess. She smiled as she jumped from her bed, looked out the window at the crystal clear water below. Giggling to herself, she lept from her room and dove into the pond, feeling the cool water upon her skin. As she swam in her nightgown, a deep male voice rang from the house, “Breakfast is ready Sera, come eat!” She popped her head from the water, shaking the water from her hair, “Yes papa, be there in a second.”

Sera swam to the bank of the pond, stepping out into the shadow of the tree, grabbing a towel to dry off her hair before changing into a dry set of clothes she had placed in the tree the night before. Stepping out with her hair in a ponytail and wearing a long tunic with a short set of pants, setting her gown out to dry in the mean time. Walking in the backdoor and to the kitchen, she’s greeted to the smells of breakfast and seeing her family all about the room. Her younger brothers, Leon and Leland, already eating heartily while her younger sister, Idalise, sitting in their mother’s lap, reading a book in between bites. She turns to see her father finishing fixing her plate of food, handing it to her. Taking the plate, she gives him a kiss on the cheek, “Thank you papa!” “Eat up, today is a big day for you and you’ll need all your energy,” said Jurian as he moved to join everyone else at the table. Idelisa smiled at her husband lovingly, letting Idalise down so she could eat before the send off for Sera later.

As they ate together, Idelisa smiled at Sera, feeling a bit of pride welling up in her heart, seeing the enthusiasm in her every gesture, seeing her talk to her brothers, talking about the treasure she would bring home for them. Idelisa looked to Jurian across the table, their eyes meeting and no words had to said, their love still as strong as the day they first met. Breakfast finished up in a timely manner, Idelisa taking the empty plates while the children went to get washed up afterwards while Jurian joined her at the sink. Helping clean up, Idelisa looked up at him, moving to hug him and said, “It feels only like yesterday she was just learning how to walk and now she’s going into the world on her own.” “I know, time really does fly but our little babies are all growing up but best we can do is help guide them on a good path,” said Jurian as he held her close. The last fifteen years had been a blessing to them, working to help the downtrodden and bring life back to the small farming community where they first met.

Idelisa smiled at him before nuzzling gently into his chest, “I still can’t believe its been almost fifteen years since we defeated Argosia but the peace has been welcome.” Jurian nodded as he held her, knowing exactly what she meant but let her go so they could clean up the mess from breakfast before the caravan was to leave. As her parents shared their moment in the kitchen, Sera was brushing her teeth along side her siblings, beginning to realize how much she was going to miss them but made sure she would return victorious. Once they all finished up, she grabbed all three in a big hug, despite her brothers already almost bigger than her already. “I love you three so much.” Leon was squirming while Idalise just stood there silently while Leland snuggled into her. “I’ll miss you too big sis!” Grinned Leland while the other two just smiled, Leon not being much for expressing himself while Idalise nodded in agreement, being a quiet child. Jurian’s voice rang out saying, “Come along children, the caravan is starting to pack up. Sera, grab your things!” There was a unison “Okay!” From the group of children, all rushing out while Sera ran up to her room, one last time.

Sera looked around her room, thinking about when the house was first built, her father asking where she wanted her room to be in the house. She rememebered running into here and looking out the window immediately to see the pond and the sapling tree that had just been planted by her and her mother. She took a moment and sat next to the window, so many memories flowing back to her. A few tears flow freely but were wiped away immediately, gripping her fist tightly and promising to herself that she would return to see her home and family again. Grabbing her bag and rushing downstairs, she saw her parents waiting at the door, smiling at her and Jurian spoke up, “Ready to go?” “Yes papa, I am,” she said, moving to hug him close. “You know you can come home any time you want,” said Idelisa as she hugged her daughter close. She nodded, holding tight to them, this being the first time she was going to be on her own. With deep breaths from them all, they joined their other children at the front gate, walking to the town commons together, seeing a large group of people packing up travel wagons.
